Katie is just that girl...
If you have been around my page very long, Katie is not a new face around here! She is always down to do the fun, weird, & crazy shoot ideas I have & I LOVE that. She always takes the makeup & nails to the next level (check out her press-on nail business info at the bottom of this post!!). On top of that, she gets the vibe & truly brings these characters in my imagination to life! The siren shoot at Rocky Falls is one of my all time favorites. She is truly a queen & I am so excited to share this session as my first blog post!
Becoming a siren takes planning.
Like most creative shoots, the planning for this session started about 3 months before the actual session. I had a couples session booked at the falls and when I walked around I immediately knew I HAD to do something fun there.
I started brainstorming and quickly decided that I wanted to have a siren vibe. Different hues of blue, green, add some pearls, some shimmer, and OBVIOUSLY a sword. (If you want a sword at your session please say the word. I'm not saying you have to I'm just saying I have a prop sword. And you would look super badass.)
As soon as I knew I wanted that siren vibe I also knew that Katie was THE girl for the job. We nailed down a date, started sharing styling ideas, and started working out the little details!
Shot lists, outfit ideas, mood boards, Pinterest boards...
These are all things that I will spend some time on before a creative session. Each session is different, but creativity and art are what are the core of my photography, so the creative preparation varies.
I love creating mood boards for creative sessions (especially when I am lucky enough to work with another creative like Katie). Seeing all the colors and vibes in one place makes choosing outfits, makeup, accessories, etc, a LOT easier. Check out the mood board for this session!
At the falls...
Katie did a quick outfit change into the blue dress we chose for this session and we added some glitter, pearls, packed up our sword, and headed to the falls! A short walk away from the parking lot, when you see Rocky Falls (especially at sunset) it is always such a refreshing and gorgeous sight.
Despite my feat of heights, we climbed up the side of the waterfall to one of the small pools towards the top. After working through the first half of my shot list, we crawled back down and started shooting in the main pool at the bottom of the falls. We transitioned to being fully in the water at the very end, and OMG. I love the close shots of her face and the sword so much.

One thing about us, we are NOT going to take anything seriously. Bloopers are simply going to happen and I am def going to edit them. Enjoy a glimpse into the "Silly Goose" folder of this gallery! Also, take this as your warning that if we shoot at the falls at sunset, there WILL be horseflies the size of elephants.
